alright, im working on this 185 for a farmer so that i can get a 200x from him, finally got it running last night and rode it around for 20 minutes, ran great, idled, shifted well, everything seemed great. on the way home from a gravel pit by my house i opened the machine up, got to full throttle and then let off, but it would not drop rpm's even with the throttle all the way closed. shut it off and got my truck, brought it home. i cleaned the carb out thoroughly, cleaned the needle and jets. reinstalled the carb, throttle goes all the way down, to where there is only a quarter of an inch between the slide and the carb seat. fired it back up and it still runs wide open, even with the slide all the way down, changed needles on it to a fatter needle, same thing happend. cleaned the carb again, took everything apart, cleaned it all, reasembled with same turns on screws, 2.5 on air fuel screw, 1.5 out on the ilde screw. same thing happens, so my question is what could be wrong to cause this??? any help is appreciated.

does it slow down when you put it in gear? When moving is there any throttle response? One thought is a leak between the carb and the motor that would cause it to lean way out at idle.

no, conitues on at full throttle, you can go all the way up to 5th gear and it just keeps pulling. and there is some throttle response so its not completely full throttle, just a little bit below it, when hitting the throttle the rpms dont change more than a couple hundred rpms.

I agree it is sucking air from somewhere. Ckeck the oring between the engine and the intake. And also check the oring from the intake to the carb. If they are both good. Then look at the intake for any holes in it. Alsdo make sure the top of the carb is screwed on tight and not sucking air in from the cap.

alright, checked the rubber mount that goes from the engine to the carb, no leaks, checked the o rings, in great shape, put some gasket sealent on both of them, recleaned and oiled the air filter, same problem, still runs wide open, and this time i even screwed the idle screw all the way out so that it wasnt touching the slide at all. so whats the next geuss, im still stumped, never have had a machine do this, ones that didnt run, ones that didnt run well, but never one that ran great wide open but wouldnt come down in idle.

Only other thing I can think would be to check that the float valve is closing. If it had a piece of debris in it, the gas might be running into the carb. Does the trike drip gas when it is sitting?
This is a wierd problem. Your are right, the problem is usually not that the trike runs too good.

no, the trike doesnt drip fuel at all, and no fuel comes out the overflow either.

On your thumb throttle itself...how does it feel when you press it?? Do you have the exact amount of pressure all the way thru the push or does it change at all?? your spring in the top of carb may not be set right.

Double check your settings. Your idle mixture should be 2 turns out instead of 2 1/2.
And your idel speed should be 2 turns out and not 1 1/2.
That should stop some air flow. And maybe calm the idle down.
