I found this quad that looks like it would be a good candidate for a trike build. It looks like a pit bike frame with a four wheeler conversion. And I found a site that sells all the parts for it I may just buy the plastics for a updated suspended 70 build I' going to do.

if you could buy a frame and swinger it would be a good start to a trike, but they are built kinda light,,,,, more for kids,, i mean little kids!!!

yeah there actualy pretty small, and around a $1000 new, but I'm sure I can eventualy find one for sale used cheap and turn it in to a fast trike for kids.

ive seen people do these "conversions".
all you have to do is take a crf 50 style pitbike and put the rear end off one of those mini quads on. it bolts right on.
the Xtreme brand pitbikes made a "wide tire" model bike, if you can find one of those front ends you will have a bad ass "pit trike"

or just find a yamaha 80 big wheel front end and bolt it up

or just find a yamaha 80 big wheel front end and bolt it up
that would be almost as hard as finding an A+ 70 frame

Here's a link to the cheapest one I found http://www.countyimports.com/inc/sdetail/6701 you can aslo find other ones by searching for typhoon 125 it goes by a few different names but I'm sure there all made in the same factory. And mymint87 I just picked up a almost roller 87 bigwheel 80 and I think I just found a Nicholson frame for a 500xr so maybe I need to go buy a lotto ticket lol but I've still never found or even seen a A+ frame, but maybe some day I'll run across one.

The xtreme typhoon frames have a bad habit of snapping off just above the swingarm mount. If you look at the picture you can see it's just a tube - no strengthening there at all. Look for one of the pitbike frame that's got a tube with a box section around it there, and a removable subframe.

It does look kinda weak right there but it could be reenforced pretty easy but I'm going a different route for know

Has anyone tried a Chinese quad rear end attached to the pit bike front end? I have a pitbike I would love to turn into a 3 wheeler. Wonder if my local cycle salvage has any Chinese quads to rob parts from...

Nice. Is that a PY frame? What's the front suspension from?

It's a yamaha big wheel frame and front forks.

Well I reckon the back axle is too wide, and it really needs some heel guards, you could run over yourself real bad on that thing.:lmao:

I have an email in to Stillwater Xtreme in Oklahoma. Supposedly they made a conversion kit in 2008 to turn your pit bike into a 3 wheeler. Inverted triples, swinger, axle, ready to bolt up. I'm waiting for a reply on availability. If they don't have em, I'll just ask lots of questions. That complete trike in the picture was 1900 in 2008. The conversion was $600. I have a decent 110 pit bike I could convert, and I could swing $600 for that.

He's got a complete one left for $1999. He thinks he can get the parts, but it's gonna cost you. The factory he uses is changing locations, so there's a current problem with parts. I think I'm going to have to stand down on this. Cool? Yes! Too much for my blood? Yes!

the r55 is more than that for just a frame and suspension... your looking at closer to $4000 to built a complete r55

you got some work to do on the shock.. might have to relocate both mounts.

So far it's just a trial mount for the shock, I'm going to lower the bottom shock mount and see how I like it.

Watch out for the chain fouling the swinger like this:

Mr. Richard
11-25-2010, 09:38 AM
The problem with the chain and the swingarm is a very common occurance with pit bike frames. the swingarm pivot is quite a ways from the sprocket, with a short amount of travel it is ok, but as you start looking for more travel it gets worse. there are chain sliders out there to help with the problem, thats the nice thing about a thriving pitbike market. there are hundreds of kool things to dress up your project.
joesmoe
11-25-2010, 11:09 AM
I've already have a chain slider and some other stuff to take care of the chain issue, and the more I look at the r55 kit It looks to me to just be pit bike based and his price may seem high but you could have well over a grand just in suspension if you buy new.

the R55 comes with a PEP rear shock thats 1000-1500 alone and your fronts are valved for you and your riding.

So really the r55 is a deal just for the suspension alone.

Ya, I'm planning on a budget of around 5-6K(which means it will probly cost me closer to 10). Figuring at least another 2k for the motor. Ive got a Pitster Pro 2wheeler that pulls like a monster so my plans are to go all out with a new 160z from PP for the trike, 20+ hp is my goal. I figure if Im going to put any kind of real money into a mini, itd better be scary fast.
U know what they say...Its just money, and you can't take it with you....

Plus all of the R&D Ron has done for you. If been cruisin several other ATC70 forums and these R55s seem to work great. More like a small scale production bike than a 'conversion'. Granted, I have seen some amazing home fabbed full suspension 70s, I just dont have the skills required to build mine from scratch.
I will have mine b4 long...works been pretty slow lately, putting a cramp in my fun money, but it will turn around eventually. If all of these road-going moneypits would give me a break from needing something for a little while I might be able to spend some money offroad.

what exactlay is a "pit bike"? I keep hearing people say that and I am out of the loop.
joesmoe
12-04-2010, 12:47 PM
A pit bike is what they call Honda crf 50's and all the Chinese clone bikes there little light and with the right suspension handle some big air and the Chinese took the little Honda 50 motor to a whole new level the engine I'm running is a pitster pro 140 rated at 16 hp it was $350 including shipping and it comes with everything you need accept the exhaust, and I would have laughed at the so called 16 hp figure from a Chinese engine but after trying it out if it not 16 it's damn close.

I know what u mean on the Pitster, we have a PP125 pitbike that pulls like a monster. way too much power for that little bit of rubber IMO. ive never felt the need to wear a helmet riding the honda 50 but the pitster has gotten crazy enuf on me a couple times that I went and grabbed a brain bucket just in case. Its also dropped me on my azz before too because i wasnt hangin on tight enuf. i cant wait to get some more power in my 70, more rubber on the ground and more seat under my butt will make things more fun for me. plus its winter now so the 2wheelers r put up for the year...unless maybe i get a new motor in the yz ice racer:doh: ...uhg, too many projects...

i am working on a pp160 it has been converted to pullstart already, should be a fun ride.
joesmoe
12-04-2010, 06:40 PM
I'd be a little worried that a pull start would break to easy, but I haven't tried it I just know mine takes some pretty good force to kick it over. But your 160 will be fast.
Mr. Richard
12-04-2010, 07:20 PM
you have to use a compression release.. or it would break .

lower you can get the seat, the lower the center of gravity is and the more stable it'll be.

<<<<jealous
im plannin on the 160 as well...really tempted to order it with the 184 V2 kit if the funds r there, since Pitster will install it if i order them together.
im not sure if id push it past 200cc for my build but if u wanna see some amazing motors, look for the Matified builds on planetminis forum, they guy is nuts and hes magician with these little pitbike motors
joesmoe
12-06-2010, 10:49 PM
Lol a 184 with a v2 head would turn a atc 70 in to a 2 wheeler because there's no way the front tire would ever stay on the ground.

ya im thinkin tall gearing for a stupid scary dangerous top end...where itll get ridden most is in a dune-like area made up of bottomless glacier silt. like wet sand most of the time but it turns to sticky snot when it gets real wet... that place can be hell on a yz125, gotta keep it wound up pretty good to keep from stalling....
