Okay i just bought a 85 250r last week and i have a few ?'s, the guy i bought it from said the previous owner rebuilt the engine, and when im flying in 6th gear and slow to a stop a little cloud of smoke catches up with me mostly blue, i know its a oil mixed and the person i bought it from said 4 oz to every gallon, is that too much or too little, cus i had one of my plugs foul out Also what are you idle/air screws set at on your 250r (how many turns).

Thanx

i dont have a 250r, so im not sure on the settings, but 4 oz to a gallon is 32-1 mixture, and that is what i run in every 2 stroke i have had, inever had a problem with fouling plugs, what kind of oil are you using? becuase different oils are made to run at different mixtures to stay in there best performance range. i use yamalube 2-s, its a semisynthetic and from what i have heard from mechanics, they all say it is one of the best oils made.

I just used some 2-s oil from a hardwarestore:( , i know its not the best, and on the three-wheeler it says 20:1, i think that would be way to much?

thanx

um hello.. 2 STROKES SMOKE, the only way to get around that fact is to buy smokeless oil. but its a pretty penny.:upyours:

yeah I wouldn't worry about the smoking...that's what they're supposed to do. however I would get a better 2stroke oil like yamalube or a good synthetic. they're not that expensive compared to a new motor.

i run golden spectro with 1 12oz bottle to 4.75gals of 93oct. which works out to 51:1. it's nearly smokeless but the most important thing is to call the maker of the oil and tell them what your going to do with it and they should recommend a ratio. if they can't you should find another oil. also don't get caught up in the racing oil in a trail bike game, racing has different demands than a woods bike.

Buy yourself a quality name brand oil mix it at 32:1 not sure why you would want to run a cheap oil you found at a hardware store since Honda is not giving parts away or even selling them cheap I like to run a quality oil in my machines, try using Golden Spectro or Yamalube.

When I sell anything with a 2 cycle engine I will jet it real FAT so FAT that when the 'new' owner takes it out on a long straight away or down a road to see how fast it will go (all new owners do this )he is not calling me up asking why the engine seized up on him, after about a week when he calls complaining about fouling spark plugs I tell him about jetting a 2 cycle engine and how you have to make changes according to weather changes, trust me they never listen to you about jetting when your selling it to them they just want to get it home and ride the thing, after having to walk a long distance to get a spark plug or push their new ride a mile or so they tend to listen to you about jetting......

If your engine is properly jetted you will have a lite brown or tan plug depending on the brand of gas and oil your using, the engine will rev crisp and clean from bottom to top without hesitation and the will NOT leave a trail of smoke behind you, now other things can make your engine smoke I suggest you take a compression reading to see if your rings are worn, worn rings will reduce the combustion efficiency as well as worn or non sealing reed petals, dirty air filter, restricted exhaust, leaking crankshaft seal (sucking oil from transmission, monitor oil level in trans) to name a few.

Happy trails :-)

Sounds like you know your $hit so Im gonna ask you a question about my YTM225DX. It starts and runs fine at low speed but in the top end it will sputter and missfire alot:wtf: :( It has about 70 PSI of pressure, I replace the plug often, and my fluid levels are right. Any idea's???:ugh:
