What is the easiest way to replace the left side drive chain adjuster?

I assume that is not the side with the nut.

You have to drive the swing arm pivot bolt out. Check the old posts as that is sometimes a difficult thing to do. I would recommend replacing the swingarm pivot bearings while you are there.

It is the side with the nut on it.

Take the nut off, and the adjuster should come off. Put the new adjuster on and put the nut back on.

this is from memory, I will look at one of my 200x's when I go to the barn today.

If you are having more trouble, take a pic if possible.

I have the nut off and it wont move, should I pry the heck out of it?

The adjuster is (supposed to be) the next thing on the axle. If it is stuck then pry it off.

Why are you replacing it? I assume because the threaded stud is broken off. That happens because someone tried to adjust the chain without loosening the big nut first.

The reason for the (supposed to be) is that many of these old trikes have been reassembled incorrectly sometime. A good example is the rear shock on my 350X. When I got it the bottom plate for the spring was reassembled in the wrong order, and the parts were all bent. Ended up costing me a couple of hundred bucks for a rebuild.

Again a pic would help me make sure I am giving you the correct advice.

To attach a pic, it has to be smaller than 100K. If you want to email them to me that would be fine ATCnut@attbi.com

I looks like there is a extra washer or something on top of the adjuster. Is it welded onto the adjuster? Hard to tell from the photo. Do you have a dremel or other rotory tool? one thing to try is to cut the thredded stud off in front of the frame and see if that gives you enough play to get it off.

The other option is to push the pivot bolt through far enough to get the adjuster off. This method is fraught with peril, because of the possiblity that the swingarm pivot bearings are frozen to the pivot bolt. However you might hit it with a block of wood and a hammer and it will slide right over. Put the nut back on upside down first, with the end of the bolt flush with the flat side of the nut.

The other question will be if you get the old adjuster off, can you work the new one on without pushing the pivot bolt? Do you have the new adjuster yet? does it look like the one you are taking off?

I spaced looking at one in the barn today, ill try to remember tomorrow.

If you end up messing with the pivot bolt, I would recommend replacing the pivot bearings while you are there.
