The first thing that I would check is for bent shift forks. The bad news is that to check them you have to split the cases.

When you say it dosnt go in to gear when it is running. Does it grind?. Or does the shift lever just not move?.

I would also guess that something is bent in the tranny and splitting the case might be your only option.

sorry I was unclear ok at idle neutral ok shift to first runs all rpm ok shift to second will go in as long as I hold the shifter up release it will run ok for a min then fall into neutral shift up same senerio all through the gears dont grind at all and back down to 1st cannot get into neutral till engine dies...same high and low range it keeps poppin out of gear into neutral between gears..

Ouch that dosnt sound good. Somthing is not lining up in the tranny. Either the shift drum is worn and not holdint the forks in place and they are moving. Or the shift forks them self are bent from someone trying to force them into gear. The fact that it goes into gear and will run while you are holding it in. Should mean that your gears are ok. But i think you are going to need a new shift drum or forks. But either way it is going to lead to cracking the case open.

Sorry i wish had a better answer. :(

Your all digging too deep into the eng. I would look at the shift shaft spring thats what holds the drum from moveing when in gear. or the pin that the spring hits on. does the shift feel a little sloppy.

Well pull your right cover and see what broke. maybe just the pin. if you keep running it like that you will brake the mounting for the pin. if not all ready broken.
