I called about a 87 250sx in the newspaper yesterday and the guy said the least he would take is $1000 for it. Here's want he said about it. Rear fender is cracked all the way across, tail light missing, small dent in gas tank with a scrach on the other side, needs battery,he bought it new, garage kept, not faded too bad, cranks first kick and its on its 2nd set of tires. Its been my experence that after you wear out the first set of tires with normal use its about time for a new clutch and rear axle bearings. The Honda dealer said $270 for a rear fender,I found it for $115 from Dennis Kirk though, I can't live with screws and metal strap repair so I got to replace that. I've never owned or riden a 250sx but always thought it was a good combination of 200m, Big Red and 200x. This guy owns a construction company so it probally saw some abuse. What do you guys think,is this a good deal?

if it looks in good shape otherwise, it is probably not too bad of a deal.
How's the seat ? front fender ?
I paid $800 for my 1985 ATC250Sx, and have a lot more into it now.
I just spent $300 on a new tank
And i can't decide if i want to go with the factory rear fender for $214 (Service Honda price), or the Maier aftermarket one, now that they offer shiny red.
Then i will be done with it, and probably have aroung $1800-$2000 in it

That fishing line trick looks like the ticket, now if only I could find red monofilament that would really be sharp. This guy is out of town untill monday, thats when I'm suppose to go look at it. He also said the seat and front fender were not torn or broken. I know what you mean about expences, I bought a 85 200x for $300 and ended up with over $800 before I finished. Dan's going to post before and after pictures of that one for me. Check it out, it was a major project!! ;)

I bought an 85 200x in pretty fair shape for $1250. Rear fender is dinged up pretty bad but still functional. My brother got an 85 350X for $900, but we had to put a few $$ into rebuilding the top end, replacing axle bearings, and brake parts. Runs great now though. Carbides Moto list a Maier rear fender for the 250SX at $89. http://www.carbidesmotoworld.com/cgi-bin/cmw/atv.html. I got a rear fender for my 86 350X from them for $119, much cheaper then the $150-160 Dennis Kirk wanted.:yup:

I paid $800 for mine and it had good but somewhat faded plastic. If you get the maier you will lose the rear trunk. Is he real firm on the $1000? They're great trikes, but it is a little high. I'd offer him $750, but if you like it and pay $1000 you won't have gotten screwed either.

OK, I went to look at it and here's the deal. I was so excited on the drive to his house, pulled in the drive of a $300k home with nice expensive toys parked in the two garages. I had a good feeling it would be a cream puff. Took me a while to figure out which door of the house to go to. Then the guy lead me to the back of one of the garage's and there it sat. My heart fell out it looked so bad. Front tire so big it rubbed the forks and ripped off the fork covers, gas tank looked like hit by motar fire, rear fender worst I've ever seen. I couldn't understand why the seat looked so good, must have been replaced before. Motor cranked OK but very cold natured, didn't want to run with out the choke on. No disengagement of clutch between gears,I mensioned this and he said it was always like that sence new. So now I didn't trust him. Still he was firm on $1000. I left depressed. My search continues!!!:(

bumer about the sx man, 1000 bucks?? in as bad a shape as you describe, not good... i paid 200 for my 84 200x n it was in horrible shape! :bash: it had NO plastic except the tank skoops. someone had BRUSHED on primer for the tank, so after grindng down thru the primer to find bright turquoise paint:wtf: finnaly got down to the bare metal, i painted the tank back stock white. then to the next flaw:doh: the bike smoked like a freight train adicted to nicotine! i rebuilt the top end with a new .030 over cylinder, weisco piston/ring combo, new gaskets and put it back together. next i was against the idea of payin 70 bucks for a new front fender so i went out back and jerked a vented one off of a kawasaki 110:headbang: after that i ordered a real set f 200x rears, got rid of te 22 inch back tires in favor of a set of 18 inch fast trekkers:D and that brings us to now, all i need is a smaller front tire and a seat cover, then im gonna paint the frame later down the road:bash: and thats the story on my 200x:p
I would have told him . you wont a 1000 in that condition and you say the clutch has been that why sins new. you must think i'm as stouped as you are. :upyours: :loser: A bike in that shape goes for around 400.00 tops

I paid 400 for myn and it wasnt in that bad of shape. only needed, rear brakes (cables&shoes) and swingarm bearings, but those went about 2 months after i got it then about 3 months ago i finally got the money and did the bearings then about a month ago i had to put a new gas tank on it. Now time for tires and a seat cover, it has a gray one and it looks horrid
