Well, Its official. I got the trike last week and today I got around to fixing the clutch. I had the same problem that Ive read about from many others. I had to get the rpm's up quite a bit before it would even try to move and then it would lunge forward really hard.:wtf: I was a little worried at 1st cuz I traded a nice big wheel for this 3 wheeler. After some research and so on I stumbled upon a junker yamaha timberwolf 250 today. It uses the exact same centrifigul clutch drum and the clutch shoes are designed different but fit like a glove and are beefier than the original tri moto clutch shoes.:yup: Spent a couple hours swapping parts, dumped in some fresh oil and crossed my fingers. At the slightest touch of the throttle, I was in heaven. This thing is a wheelie machine and is smooth as ever. I couldnt be happier.:headbang:

So all you did was swap the clutch discs?
Is this what you are talking about......

Also if you took any pictures of this or could do a write up that would be great. My 225 does the same thing.

YES. The clutch drum is the exact same part#. The timberwolf clutch shoes are a bit differently designed but better. But beings they use the same drum its a direct fit. The 1 other thing you have to use is the funky shaped washer or nut keeper that you bend the tops on so the nut doesnt come loose. The dx washer doesnt fit the holes in the timberwolf clutch. Other than that its a simple upgrade.
Just so we are clear, I am talking about the centrifigul clutch and NOT the disk plate clutch. From what I have read tho, pretty much all timberwolves and bear trackers are the same. Both 2 and 4wd machines.
Mine came out of an 94 4x4 250 timberwolf. Parts are much easier to find for the atv vs the atc
Go to this link below and the 2 pieces needed are #5 and #8 This is for a 2000 bear tracker and still the same part #

when i done this swap i notice the 250 clutch shoes to be narrow compared to the oem 225 shoes.

They are narrower. I just bought the dx and the clutch wasa bad when I got it, so Ive never driven 1 with a good clutch, but after installeing the timberwolf clutch I have absolutely NO COMPLAINTS. Even being narrower it shouldnt matter cuz the timberwolf uses the exact same clutch drum. Im happy that I had 1 sitting around.
