This question is for my friend. He things he stripped the gears out in his 225dx. So he was trying to get the axle and rear end apart, he said that he has all the bolts out, but nothing budges. Is there a clip or something that usually gets over looked when taking these apart? Any other ideas? WHich way should the axle pound out? Also, is the differential on these similar to a truck rear end, does it have a ring and pinion gear?

Here is a picture from parts fish of there rear end setup. Maybe he will be able to see something in the picture that he hasnt removed yet.
Looks just like the SX. remove hubs. then remove axle covers or houseings. the axle will not come out because the bearing stops on the axle keep it in the houseing.the axle just floats in the differential. the bearings keep the axle shaft alined in the differential.

axle will come out the brake side
leav carrier in frame while doing this
remove retainer nuts on axle and remove the brake disk stuff.
you will probly have to beat the axle out
leav the spindle hub on the left side ,use a 2 inch diamiter peic of pipe as a coller this way you will not wreck splines or nut threads.
but may warp the hub ,,(but thats cheapr than an axle.about 45 bucks still available from yamaha)
if you have to beat it hard dont be surprised if the ring gear is cracked (i broke the one in my 200E)(but then i had to use a 20 lb sledge hammer) When u put it back together put graphite or aluminum grease on the interior splines to keep it from seizing together again,, talk to HOWDY about the parts he has alot of them. hope this helps
