I am looking into cam and piston suggestions for a 350X.The motor is a brand new take out engine.I am looking at increasing performance. The piston has to be able to run on pump gas.Don't want to modify the head either for a cam.So far from what I have found alot of people like the Megacycle cam.Want more low to mid range also.Looking for something reliable not radical. Will be adding a 400EX carb.More than likely it will be a DG pipe unless something comes along sooner.

I just finished my 350x and had the same questions as you. The opinion on cams is all over the place although most prefered the "Webcam". Most of the companies offer a cam that is just a little bit bigger than stock that you can run with stock springs and rockers. If you want to get one that is going to make a bigger difference in power it gets expensive because you need new heavy duty springs, hard faced rockers and possibly new valves.
The opinions on the 400ex carb was also all over the place. Some say it made a difference, some say it made a difference only because their stocker was worn out. They all said it's a bitch getting it to fit.
The High compression piston was the best bang for the buck. I think mine was 10.25 to 1, Wiesco. Definitly gave me alot more low end torque and runs on 91.
As far as the pipe I switched from the Supertrap to a DG only because my Supertrap was beat up and ugly.I liked the Supertrap much better than the DG and will eventually go back to the Supertrap.

I'm with Bob, Wiseco 10.5 to 1 piston and Webcams 213 grind Camshaft (requires hardened rockers and stronger valve springs) SO WORTH IT! But to get the most out of your investment, UNI air filter and High flow exhaust are a must. Supertrapp being the best.

IMO the 400EX Carb upgrade is and was a joke. The only advantage I can see of the 400Ex carb is that they are newer and most havent been abused for 25 years, thus making them in better shape. It isa bitch to make it fit. I can't remember if I used a heat gun or my small butane torch, either way I leated up the intake boot & air tube. that made it go in alot easier.
I just sold A bike not to long ago. It had a head that was ported by our local shop, Web Cam, springs, Wiseco 12:1 Piston, and a Mikuni Roundslide carb. That thing was nasty. It would straight up walk away from my Bone stock unmollested 86. Friend of mine bought it and the timing chaing skipped and it blew up. I have the whole top end, and carburetor if interested. The head is at the machine shop, it needs new valves. Cam journals were perfect.
