I assume this is on one of your 200 honda`s?.

I set the engine at TDC. Then loosen the lock nuts on both adjusters. And turn the adjuster down until it hits. Then i back it off just a hair. Maybe 1/8 turn. And retighen the lock nuts. Then start it up and let it warm up. And then loosen your timing chain adjuster. Let it continue to run for a minute or two. Then retighten the chain adjust. Then go ride:D

on a 1985 200x intake= .003in(.08mm)exhaust=.003in(.08mm)

all other models intake=.002in(.05mm) exhaust=.002in(.05mm)
my clymer manual for 185-200 hondas years 1980-1986 says so

If you ever tried to get a feeler gauge in there you will know why i do it the way i do.

And the .003 in thinner then a sheet of paper. Just to tell you how little you back it off.

basicly you just dont want the adjuster tight againt the valve. So that it isnt hanging up when the valve is closed. If you loosen them too much it will start to chatter bad. So just try it a few times you will get the hang of it.

yeah, its my 200x. the valve train is starting to make alot of noise, so i figured its time. ive never done one to it and i dont know when the guy i got it from did the last one. also, what does the timing mark look like, isnt it a T?

There are two marks on the flywheel. There is a T for TDC and a F for fire.

The one that you want for setting the valves is the T.

look in the tech section on the main page. there is an article there that describes it for a 200x. i also covers the timing chain. it is a great article.

when you say tighten your timing chain adjuster, are you talking about the cam chain tensioner?

well I must have done something wrong putting this engine back together.I took camshaft out and put it back in,never done it before.Anyway,to make a long story short,Im trying to adjust valves this way,but adjusting screw just keeps on screwing down till the nuts about to fall off
