i still cant figure out what the problem is. when i first got the trike running it would bog out of the hole. i soaked my parts carb inchemtool 24 hours to remove the gum and reassembled it. when i put it on the 250r runs better but it has no top end power and smokes alot. i went up one notch on the needle jet and reset the float. it makes no differnce. it runs like the choke is on all the time??? anyone have any ideas???

the plug is black. i am riding at night so i cant really see the color of the smoke. it looks white at night. i tried several wide open throttle runs to read the plug. they are all black. the plug is gapped to .028" and has a strong blue spark. How do i check the reed valves??? will that make it run rich??
thanks for hte help.

Bad reads it wont run or run like crap.
did you try leening out carb ajustments.
if so it is starting to sound like worn jets.
how does the chock shuttle look does it move freely does it look like some one has filed the needle .
if it does not bottom out it will run like the chock is on

how can i lkean it out more?
i have the float adjusted low and i have moved the clip on the needle up one notch. what else is there to do? there is no gas flowing from any of the overflow tubes. if i try to raise the float level it really bogs bad.

I belive that the triZ is a point type ignition. If so the points might be worn and need replacement or at the least adjustment, you might also want to file the points to flatten the surfaces.

i would start by asking the dealer what the stock main jet and clip position should be along with what plug. have you checked cranking pressure in the motor with a comp. gage? is there a chance the things tired?does the bike run ok except for wot.
when you check it at wot do you buzz thru 4 gears/cut throttle/hit kill switch/ it makes a difference. i'm still kinda new to the 2 stroke and had mine too rich yesterday and fouled a b9 and put up with crappy running cause there was too much sand in the air to pull the carb. down and rejet.

Is the exhaust restricted? I would inspect the reeds if they are not sealing they will make the carb run rich, the reeds prevent the back flow of the air/fuel mixture, reeds not sealing will alow the air/fuel to pass through the carb a second time. carbs are stupid they will keep dumping fuel into the air stream no matter how many times the same air passes through the carb.

What size main jet you have installed?

The air filter clean and not over oiled?

Remove the lid on the air box and take it for a ride does it run better? Removing the lid is like going down 1-2 main jet sizes and moving the clip on the needle up one notch.

the main jet is a 130 as specified in the clymer manual. the clip should be in the 3rd from the top. i put it 2nd from the top to lean it out some. i have tried running without an airfilter and still it runs rich. i have not done a compression test but the engine starts real well. usually on the first kick. I am going to try and find a new plug for it and work on it some more tonight! what do i look for when i inspect the reeds???????

if you do like suggested and shut if off after blasting through the gears and the plug is still black try thinning the mixture down to 32:1. Also, what kind of premix are you running? Is there any packing left in the silencer?

like i said before call your preferred oil supplier monday and ask for their recomended ratio. going to 32:1 from 20:1 will effectively richen the mixture since you have more fuel (32) for the same volume of liquid. and chainsaws right i've found that b8 to be way more forgiving than a b9 i can only run a 9 on a very warm day with my jetting spot on or it fouls. of course that's in a water pumper???

well i just did the full throttle run and throttle / power chop. i do not have a straight enough run for all 5 gears so i wound 4th out and cut it all pulling in the clutch. the plug still looks new! it was a little wet though. I think that is because my clutch does not fully disengage. i cant adjust it anymore though. I hate taking things to the shop, but it is looking that way. :(
