Hello,
I have an '86 350X and my brother has an '85. His bike is difficult to get into neutral. It takes more "up" pressure on the shifter from 1st, then it wants to jump straight into 2nd. My '86 is a breeze to hit N and doesn't do this. Is there any type of adjustment that can be made? I check the service manual, but couldn't find anything. The clutch pull feels fine and routine shifting is not a problem. Didn't know if we should just try to add more clutch pull. Thanks for any advice.

sometimes it helps to blip the throttle when trying to find neutral. I don't know enough about clutch cable adjustment to give you any advice there.

Sounds like a slightly bent or cracked shifter assembly. Between my brother and I we have three 85's, and have ridden with several people with 86's. The all shifted about the same.

I've had two different 350x motors and they both have the same problem, hard to get them into neutral when they are running. I have found it is easier to shift down from 2nd into neutral than going up from 1st.

It sounds to me like the clutch is still grabbing slitely. Still putting pressure on the tran`s. And like Dan said. If you blip the throttle and bring up the rev`s. It will slip more and be easier to shift. This can happen a lot from clutch cable stretch. As the cable wears and stretches it dosnt disingauge the clutch as well. Try taking a little play out of your clutch cable. And see if that dosnt help.

It's quite probable that you have warped discs or a grooved clutch basket.

Ok Im new at this trike stuff so bear with me and if I am wrong let me know.

Levi is saying that a gooved clutch basket is holding the plates engaged slightly putting pressure on the trans? or vise verse with worped disks?

either one will put pressure on the whole mechanism and make neutral hard to find. it will also cause premature wear on several parts of the tranny. if your trike creeps forward with the engine running and the clutch in then you probably have warped discs.
