my 200s has 21x11x9 on it now and manufactures call for 22x11x8 but i would like to keep the same size tire or close to it
heres my question if it is a 9 in wide rim could i go with another 9in size tire but w/ different or same outside diameter? and could it be a wider or narrower footprint ?

Without rear suspension to worry about, I don'tt see why not. Just remember to maintain clearance with the chain, frame, fenders, etc. A wider tire will mean the fenders will catch less throw off (some people like getting muddy though), you will be wider (it may not fit everywhere you used to go, trust me some places I ride an inch would make a difference) and if the tires are more or less than 22" in diameter, it will change the ratios, gear wise. Stock performance is based on 22" tires. I believe less diameter will create higher top end speed but you will lose low end pull. Also, you could compensate for thsi by changing the sprockets.

First off lets back up a little. A 22x11x9 tire means

22 inch = overall tire height
11 inch = is the width of the rim it mounts on
9 inch = is the inside diameter of the tire ( the hole in it)

So a 23x11x8 means the overall stock tire would have been 1 inch taller and mounted on a 8inch rim instead of the 9 inch that you have on there now.

So the main to numbers you want to watch for are the 11 inch width and the 9inch rim diameter. These have to stay the same. Running as low of air pressure as these tires do. They will pop off the rims if you dont keep these numbers the same.

So that leaves you with the 22inch height to play with. You could go 1inch taller and look at a more or less stock one

23x11x9

Or maybe a little more if you have room and can find them in this size

24x11x9

But the taller the tire the faster the top end will be. Because the tire will cover more ground per turn then a smaller one will. But also the taller the tire the less power you will have. Because it is harder for the engine to get a bigger tire spinning. So that a lot of people choise to go with a smaller tire size to get more wheel spinning power. But thats the rundown on it.

If im not mistaken, if you go smaller on the tires you gain torque and loose top end speed. you have a smaller distance around therfore, if the old tire say the 22 took you 2 feet a rotation a smaller tire like a 20 may take you 1 and a half feet. therfor you would loose speed. and that was just an example you wouldent really loose half a foot with a 2 inch diffrence. i hope. but i know this because i just put 31" tires on my truck and the speedomiter is way off. and any way BIGGER IS BETTER.

so when i go for tires i should keep the last 2 numbers the same in tire demintions ,and i could go w/ a 23 or a 21 ?is this correct?

Yes if it has a 9 inch rim you can change the 21 to alot of diffrent things as long as you have the clearance. so you could in a sense put a 23X11X9 on. that may work but check for clearance.
