I recently removed the gas tank to patch a hole in it and clean it out. Now every time I turn the gas on it leaks through the two black tubes wich look to be some sort of overflow tubes. I posted this question about a week ago and the suggestions that I recived were to check the float in the carb. So today I took off the carb and thourghly cleaned it out. The float was clean and move up and down fine. I put it all back together and it fired right up but he gas is still leaking out like a garden hose:wtf: will run fine for about 2 minuted then it will die. Could I have damaged something in the gas tank?? Why is it doing this........ I can't wait to ride!!this is my first trike so thanks for the help!!

The float may move but dose the needle move freeley? I would take it back apart and make sure that It was ok. then i would take all the jets and screws out and flush it with som carbarator cleaner or maby some brake-kleen. you may have a small peice of rust in there holding the needle open. or you may have the fuel inlet hose on the vent line. ive seen it all before. good luck, ATC_250SX:demon:

I've had that problem before, either the float valve and or valve seat are worn.. Or your float may be adjusted wrong.. Are the floats etirely platic? Or is the middle part metal? If the middle is metal, then it can be adjusted.. Here is an easy way to do it: Put a clear tube on the overflow at the bottom of the float bowl, make sure the tank is off. Then hold the tube up, along the side of the carb. and open the drain screw a little, so gas starts to fill the tube.. Then turn on the gas at the tank, make sure there are no air bubbles in the tube connected to the overflow. The gas will fill up the tube to whatever level the float is allowing the bowl to fill up to, it should only go up to 1/8 of an inch or so under the top of the bowl, where it seperates from the rest of the carb.. And if yours is overflowinf, it will definitely be higher then that.. So, slihjtly bend the metal piece that the float valve is on up, to make it seat earlier, shutting off the gas that is allowed in the carb. Keep doing this till the level is just right... Hope that helps....

Hey thanks for the help guys. I have one more question about the float before i take it all apart again. The float IS plastic but there is a metal needle in the middle that has a little pin that seems to be spring loaded. Is this adjustable?
Thanks in advance........Joe

I did that thing with the overflow and the clear tube and the gas goes about 1/8 of an inch over the float bowl. is that a problem?

Hey atcboy....it looks like you could take off the float bowl if you have a small enough screwdriver, but i haven't tried it yet.

I wouldnt take the bowl off without taking te carb off the motor, it just makes it more difficult to fix stuff. The gas should be about 1/8 of an inch or so, below the bowl, if its above, then thats why it is coming out of the overflow. Did you check to see whether or not the float valve is seating correctly?? If you did and it i, then you need to adjust th floats.. To do that just bend the little metal tab, that is between the 2 big plastic pieces, up a very little bit... Its gonna tak a little while to get the gas level just right... Your probabl gonna have to take the carb. apart a bunch of times to get it just right... Take your time, only bend the metal piece a very tiny bit each time till its right..... While the carb is apart, make sure you use carb cleaner to clean everthing out. If you do it right the first time, you wont have to keep fixin it all the time... (God I sound just like my dad now)........ Hope that helped....:D
