'84 200x, using new sprockets & installing new bearings.
I forgot how many links are supposed to be in the chain. Is it possible that PSP sent one I don't need to cut or is that totally ridiculous?

get one longer...i go thorugh chains alot and it seems if ya get them longer you can usually get it either adjusted on the bike or take a nail punch a hammer and a washer and pop some links off the chaing before putting on the master link.. ..

Whats up? I just redid a 84 200X and the chain that I put on and what is called for is 99 link 520. Mine worked fine . Just make sure the trikes jacked up off ground.Even if its alittle tight, the first rip or two it will stretch!!!

MOST OF THE CHAINS YOU BUY ARE CUT TO FIT IT SAVES THE SELLER FROM HAVING TO STOCK A MILLION. YOU CAN GET EXACT LEGNTHS BUT USUALLY HAVE TO ORDER SPECIAL. YOUR LOCAL BIKE SHOP SHOULD BE ABLE TO SELL YOU A TOOL CALLED A CHAIN BREAKER FOR ABOUT $20. MAKES LIFE A LOT EASIER. EASIER THAN A HAMMER,PUNCH,WASHER AND SMASHED FINGERS.

Well, the one they sent was 96 links. It's part number 405W3-HB9-505.
The instructions in the package say "typical model: ATC 185,200,250, TRX250."
I'll have to go outside & count 'em, and I guess sent it back if it's not long enough.

And, after further research, I'm more confused, but found a handy chart:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=17&q=http://www.nicholsmotorcycle.net/catalog/cross/757.pdf&e=747
says 88 links. Last time I replaced the chain I had to cut links.
Now I've noticed the holes in the sprocket aren't round (not the bolt holes.)
I still need to go dig up the old chain & count...

...And the old chain has 86, so since I took 2 out, I'll have to cut off 4 sets...
whew! And the sprocket fits, so that's good.
But I wish that sprocket damper wasn't discontinued...it's on its last legs.

I bought my X-ring chain and sprockets all from rockymountainatv.com, and it all bolted right on- no cutting or anything.
Sometimes a little more $$$ up front is well spent compared to the aggravation and hassles of modifying something...

It's the hub that connects the axle to the rear sprocket and 'dampens' it with the 5 rubber bushings. My axle is still cherry, but the splines in the hub are worn to the nub, and it look like one steep hill may strip it altogether.
