Fouled plugs/wont Idel

My trike wont Idel ! I checked everything,carb, gas, breathers, and air box. I noticed that under the pulse generator(cdi) the cylinder bolt is missing so i started to take off the C D I to get a bolt in there. While I was doing that I noticed that Behind the base plate of the cdi there is two springs. One on the top and one on the bottom,But the one on the bottom isnt there!!! Could this cause the idel prob??????

If you are looking at the piece i think you are that is part of your ignition advance. And should be replaced but shouldnt effect how it idles. Have you checked your idle mixture jet and tried ajusting it?.

Does it flood out or seam like it is not getting enough gas?.

What kind of engine is it?.

I learned an incredible lesson this last weekend that helped me approach things a touch differently. SO I will blast you some questions. Has it never idle or was this a recent upset? If recent upset what have you done different or may have changed? if you havnt done anything has it been sitting a while? What are basically if you know, some of the difference since the day it idled to now..but not limited to air temps and moving? Sounds silly I know....Jen

It hasnt Ideled from day one. Its a 84 200X and I changed the carb twice. The air gas jet screw is all the way on the bottom faceing you when you crouch down right? Well I tried that and still could not maintain an Idel. This Is pissing me off, Specialy cause my kicker gear is stripped so in the mean time I have to jump it and once I get it started I cant get off or it will stall!!!!

check for an air leak around the intake manifold, if your suckin air it wont idle.

OKOK put that hammer down and slowly back away....Sorry I know frustration all too well...

Ok when you do get it running how does it run?? does the it race away from you or does it bog or just simply say kiss my butt and die on you?? Did the previous owner give you any history at all?? Smile if you are patient it will run for you again...Give some of the memebers time they will help you walk thru this they are a fine group of peeps..

hey guys, Sorry for being pissed off. I really do apreciate all the help! The intake does have a small surface crack but I checked the inside of it and it dont seem to go through. As for when it runs, Well it runs like a raped ape but when I come to a stop after running it hard for a little while It dies pretty Quick. When it is started for the first time of the day it idels alittle high for about a minute and then slowly idels down till it stalls out. As for the history of the trike, it sat in some dudes yard for about 10 or 12 years. It was in pretty bad shape but I fired it over 1 day after getting it and it ran strong,so I didnt pull the top off or anything like that. I just did the basics New plug, new carb, new air box,new trottle cable,bars,clucth,bearings etc... The only thing that was good today was that I got a leed on a trike So I went and checked it out, Its a 1986 200s that is pretty much mint,so Im picking it up on friday for $100...

Does the choke seem to be opening and closing correctly?.

You probable have something stuck inside the airway in the carb have you taken it off and cleaned it out yet?.

I STILL THINK YOU HAVE AN AIR LEAK THE FACT THAT IT RUNS "LIKE A RAPED APE" COULD BE FROM RUNNING LEAN (AIR LEAK) GET A CAN OF CARB CLEANER AND FIRE UP THE BIKE . WHILE ITS RUNNING SPRAY AROUND THE INTAKE AND CARB IF THE IDLE CHANGES THERES YOUR LEAK.

If it has an air leak in the intake manifold it will get hot from running to lean. Then it don't idle. there are ways you can check this. Check the spark plug if it is white, you are too lean, tannish is you have good mixture, black is too rich. Is it too hot after you ride it?

Well I left it at a friends house yesterday,and Im not gonna have a chance to get to it today. It definately doesnt idel after rideing it for a while. I'll try the carb cleaner trick to see if I can locate a leak. The plugs are as black as nite after a 3 second ride. Thanks everyone . By the way, Any body got any spare kicker gears they want to sell?

Hey congrats on the score for the $100 trike. It will help you be patient with this one...By the way when is the last time you adjusted your valves?? Sorry no kickstarter..Jen

Hey thanks! I plan to adjust the valves this weekend. Im not givin up till this trike runs perfect, even if it means working on it non stop all weekend. And we are gonna get a good amount of snow!!!

Hey whats up evrybody? Well I guess you could say I'm alittle slow.... It turns out after a couple carb cleanings,a bunch of head aches, about 20 fouled plugs, It was the in line fuel filter that I put in backwards....DUHHH! So anyway now it ideles!!! Now all I need is the Kicker gears for an 84 200X, Anybody????
