View Full Version : Can't be good
I took the exhaust off the beast(1985 Tri Z 250) and noticed a lot of oil looking stuff right under the exhaust port from the engine http://images.snapfish.com/3368%3B4%3A%3B23232%7Ffp67%3Dot%3E2326%3D735%3D54%3B%3Dxroqdf%3E23233766373%3A9ot1lsi What should I do, Do I just try to clean it up and put on the new exhaust, or do I have a problem in the engine since this oil looking stuff is leaking out the exhaust port . Also, is there a way I can tell if this is indeed a true TRI-Z 250? I'm seeing yellow writing on the engine that says 1985 Tri Z, like it was an engine sitting somewhere on a shelf and they wrote on it to tell what it was . The swingarm looks funny, compared to the one on partsfish for this model. It has a aluminum type bar on the bottom, looks like it is some type of reinforcement of some type . I really don't know what these beast are suppose to look like, so I can't tell if I have a Tri-Z or something else with a Tri Z motor in it
Any help would be great
Thanks Again

as for the writing on the engine my guess is that it has had a replacement engine put in that was maybe bought from a breakers(they mark things up that way in breakers to identify parts quicker)
the oil residue under the exhaust outlet is probably from it bein run on incorrect mix by previous owner(i nticed u checked about the ratio!!)theres a little on mine but not that much, did you do a compression check?the rings may be f****,did it have the exhaust gasket in when u took the original pipe on?sometimes gets left out and jus filled with exhaust paste(which blows out)
can u post a pic of the swingarm?its probably jus been modded!!
have u posted pics of the actual trike?
I've posted the pics before, but I'll do it again. Thanks for the response

It does not have the gasket's on the original exhaust system, but I've ordered some from partsfish, so they'll be here next week. I haven't done a compression test yet, because I'm trying to get it to run well enough to do one. Thanks for your help:headbang: :headbang:

looks stock to me except that COOL caliper guard.
yea, that thing does look pretty cool. was that a common aftermarket item, or is that thing homemade?

The R,
I think you better tape, bag, and seal everthing up then head to the car wash and give that baby a good old fashioned bath, and then stop and get a can of wd-40 on the way home and spray everything!

use lots of ez-off oven cleaner...that stuff will eat through ANYTHING. :D
I found that out when I had to clean some gook off of my trailer rims (old mud). Worked beautifully.
Thanks

its not too much to be concerned about. i would put a new gasket on the pipe, check your mixture and run it. 2 strokes dont burn all the premixed oil.what doesnt get burnt will condense and form the goo your picture is showing.
