Fuzzy,
I notice that you have an 82 200. I just got one, needs some work but runs. Do you find that parts for the later years, 83 and newer, will fit on the 82? I am talking about fenders particularly.
I notice that a lot of stuff is for 83 and newer, but the machines appear to be the same. I also need a new gas tank, I notice that you have an aftermarket tank in your picture. Any comments on that? Thanks - Ted

The reason you see the change i think in fenders. Is because they started adding front suspension to them. And when they did. They got rid of the big wheel design. Meaning they dumped the 25" tires and when to a smaller more sporty 22". And so they didnt need as big of fenders on them. I had a 84 200s for a while and i cant speak for the 83 models. But the 84 was way different. Smaller rear fender, Different glove box, Different rear rack setup. I really cant remember the front fender. But i would guess it would be narrower because of the smaller front tire. But not sure.

But different motor parts will interchange with other years. But i think the body parts and tires and the addition of front suspension is what set them apart.

As far as the plastic tank goes. I think it is great. It`s bigger and holds more fuel then a stock tank. And is a great solution for some one with a real bad gas tank. I dont like useing the quick fixes. Like the liquid tank liners. They all seem to leak again after a while. And either come off in side the tank and plug up your gas filter and carb. Or start leaking on the outside and drip gas on to your hot engine and start a fire. So my first choise would be to keep it stock if you can. But if it becomes unsafe to use the stock one. The plastic ones make for a great option. And i dont think they look to bad either :D.

Thanks for your remarks, I appreciate them. I have been surfing today, and I have found a lot of the things that I need at http://www.jlatvproducts.com/ aka Aftermarket ATV Products. I found the gas tank, a 3 and a 3 1/2 gallon model are available for 129 and 169 dollars respectively. I believe that I will be going for the 3 gallon model. BTW, I notice that some the links are down, but when I do a search I can find the sites listed and go to them.

My gas tank does not leak, but, it is rough looking. I am a perfectionist to a fault. I have found a new headlight, a new seat, gas tank, and fenders. I am going to call about the fenders first, to make sure that the fit. I've only got 200 dollars in this 82 model 200, and it even runs. I am looking forward to getting it in as good shape as I can. Being an old man, at 38, I really like the automatic clutch better than the manual clutch on the 200X model that I have.

For some as yet undiagnosed reason, oil is leaking heavily around the top of the head, just above the exhaust. Oil has also worked its way to the exhaust, and is coming out at the muffler.
I think that it is the valve seals maybe, but I am not real sure. It starts easily, so it is not fouling the plug, despite a large amount of thick oily smoke. I don't really know what it is just yet. Best -
