I have a 1981 atc 200 . I just finished the break in on a new top end . I put a mid-range cam in and have a Cobra pipe on it . It has no top end , but does'nt back fire at full trottle . I have tried Main Jets from 95 to 120 . And also all needle positions with each jet . Nothing has helped . Should I Just try to find a new carb ? And will a later model 200s carb work on this bike .

Thanks for any help ! Mike

Have you done a compression test on it?. Lack of top end can be due to lack of compression. Did you have a shop do the work on it or did you do it yourself?. Did you put a new piston in it also or just the cam?.

And a later model carb will work on it. You might want to find a 200x carb for it to feed it more air and fuel.

I had a local shop do the bore job and I installed everything . Everything in it is new . This was the first bore on the bike . I think it is .25 over . I did not go with the high compression piston it is stock replacement . Also put new timing chain and all guides and tensioner . Valves and springs are new also . I'm having trouble finding any Carb older than a 1984 . But if a 1985 200x Carb will work I will order that .
I did find out it is the Carb . I took the Carb off a friends 1985 200s and it worked fine . Thanks for the advice about the 200x !

How much more power do you have with that new webcam and pipe? I have a 185 and someday i wanna bore it out with high comp. piston webcam and pipe. 185s rock!!!!:headbang:

My friend with the 200s has a mid-range cam and 11 to 1 piston in it . His bike will smoke me . It's a huge difference in power and it rev's a lot quicker . I've got the 11 to 1 ordered even though what I have is working fine . It's not that hard to swap out the piston . When you get the piston and cam for your 185 you have to get the stiffer valve springs to go with it .
