check out an exploded diagram of your carb on partsfish.com and just disassemble then soak. make sure you have a rebuild kit with orings if you use carb dip. you might also want to find some really fine wire to use to clean out all the passages inside the carb. good luck!

here's a couple of tips to add , for what it's worth . .
once you get into the bowl, those two brass
things ( don't know the proper term ) with the
flathead screwdriver notches in the top - those
are supposed to have a small passage through the
top as well as the series of small holes along the side.
I wasn't sure, but I'm glad I poked at them a bit, because
eventually, the (very small ) wire I was using did push
through some gunk there. So, be sure to unclog that
passage on both.
DO NOT USED PLIERS on the screw top on the carb ( where
the throttle cable goes in ). These tops are fragile, and
heat and age just make them very brittle. I wish I had put
a layer of epoxy on mine before I removed it, because it fell
to pieces, and now I need a new one. . . . so you might want
to do that - strength over beauty.

i used to wonder why they would bother giving new jets in the carb kits but after this 70 carb i know why. there have been so many tanks of gas that went bad in this things life i'd never get the jets clean. i use a rubber tipped "blow nozzle" to clean out the passages because it can seal to the hole really good. look for a conical tip that almost goes to a point and be CAREFULL you can't believe some of the missles that come flying out.

Something else to add....
In my experience in cleaning carbs, the best carb cleaner is PVC pipe cleaner (NOT THE PURPLE PRIMER!!!) This stuff is clear! This stuff cuts varnish very well, but DO NOT use it on ANYTHING RUBBER! It will destroy rubber. Good for float bowls, jets, needles, ect. BUT NOT plastic floats, rubber tipped float needles, or anything rubber or plastic.
Good luck!
