i am installing back brakes on my 200s. When i got it there were no back brakes. the brake cables seem to be getting stuck. When i squeeze hand brake it stays squeezed. same with foot brake. Where do i adjust this? the 2 screws at the back by the brake? any help would be great please ?

The 2 screws on the back are to remove play in the brake cables, If they were to tight then your brakes would drag, to lose and pulling the lever or stepping on the pedal woulden engage the brakes. If the brakes are not releasing then check the return spring. It is the spring between the brake drum and the brake arm, allso check that the splined shaft that the brake arm mounts to moves freely, they have been known to lock up and not allow the brakes to release, i have fixed this with WD40 and moveing ib back and forth untill it moves freely.

Also you might want to disconnect the brake cables them selfs and check to see if they arnt all rusted. I have seen that on a few machines that havnt had brakes in awhile. Water get into the cables and starts to rust from the cable not being moved back and forth or lubricated. So start with the cables and make sure they move freely and go from there.

the biggest prob i found with drum brakes is the shaft that goes into the drum rusts up and does not move freely. so the spring will not return the lever to center. pull the shaft clean and grease it. just remember where the lever is compared to the shoe expander peddistal. as they wear you may have to set the lever back one spline to get the through to inguage the brakes.

I had the same prob with my 84 200M. All new shoes, drum, cables and springs, and the thing would still bind from time to time. The fix? I rigged up a small bracket that bolted to the rear drum cover, and hooked an auxilliary spring between it and the actuating lever. Never had a prob since!

Remove right wheel, remove the two nuts off the axle, remove six bolts off brake cover, and remove two nuts off brake cables. Pull cover what you see is the brake drum. Should slide off if not wiggle the brake lever as you pull to center shoes. Then remove shoes undo the bolt on the lever, use screw drive to pry lever open so it goes on and off easy. Also you will remove a spring and an indicator washer. Then you can push the shaft out. There is a felt dust washer on lever side. If not in good shape you can replace will an O-ring. Clean shaft and hole it rides in and grease up. Put all back together. Just remember how the lever was positioned to the flat part of the shaft that the brakes set on. As your cables stretch and the brakes wear moving the lever on the shaft will give you more brake adjustment when you start to run out.

OK OK leave the hub on. you don't have to remove all the parts off the axle, it's just eazyer that way. just put the tire and rim and slide every thing back against the hub.

and the parts pic. all the parts are in rows but the rows connect to each other just the way they install in the trike.

once you get the axle nuts ( the big ones ) loose, and the dust shield off, and your trying to pull the brake drum itself -

note there is a rubber O-ring in a groove right down around the axle that will keep the drum from sliding off like you want it too.
On mine, the drum was loose ( wasn't frozen on ) , but it just wouldn't slide off. It was that little O-ring holding it on.
