I am still having carb problems with my 83 big red and with my 86 250r. Does anyone know where I can buy a kit of different jetts for these bikes? Im not sure of the jet sizes that I have now. both bikes are running very rich.
thanks,
chris

Thanks, I just went Dennis Kirk.com and found the jets. I have another question for you. On the top of my jet (from my 83 big red w/ 22mm keihin) it has a 98 stamped into it in 2 places. Im guessing that this is the size? If the trike is running rich do I order a larger or smaller jet?
Thanks

yes, the number stamped on the main will be your mainjet number. Not sure if it's stock or not, but if the bike is running too rich, then try going down to a 96 or 94. I'd buy a whole set of five say jets 90 through 100, or however they come. Don't forget though, that if the bike is running rich at idle, or low end this wont' help, you will need to check your clip position too, and move the clip up a notch or two to lean it out some if need be. I would try this possibly before changing the main. I would reccomend getting you a manaul they really help out for things such as this, and will tell you stock clip position as well as stock jet sizes. Also, you might want to clean and rebuild the carb if it hasn't been done in awhile. I tried for a long time to figure out why my 200x was running rich, and my mechanic found a small airjet that was clogged when he tore it down. Good luck!

Just to throw my 2 cents in the stock jet should be a 95. Could that marking be a 95 instead of 98?. If not then someone has tried to pump more fuel through it and it should be replaced with a 95.
If you just need that one jet you can get that also from www.denniskirk.com for about $5.00.

Thanks for your help. The jet has 98 stamped in it. I will try a 95. I have a manual but its not a factory honda manual. I have been tring to buy one on ebay but they have sold as much as 80+ that is too much. The trike does idol or run rich but I have had the carb off several times and Im pretty sure its clean. Im jettin the jets today.

Hey basher, get your manual here. 32 bucks is a steal for a new Honda manual!!! It would tell alot more than a clymer or haynes one would..

I would throw the 95 back in it if the machine is otherwise stock, and check the clip position whoever threw the big jet in may have richened it up too for whatever reason. Maybe Fuzzy or someone else can tell you stock position.

I sure could. Stock setting for the pilot (idle mixture)is 1 7/8 turns out. Needle clip should be on the 3rd notch. Idle speed is 1400 rpm`s.

Well I put a 95 jet in it today and made all of the stock adjustments to the carb and the big red started. I let it warm up and I checked the plug and it was black. I took the carb off again and cleaned the float real well and blew the carb out one more time. I put in back on and ran it for a while and then checked the plug and it was black. So I move the slide assembly clip 1 noch to the lean side and ran it for about 15 minutes. Its still running a little rich.
Through out this whole process there has been some white smoke from the tail pipe but the plug is black. I think the owner before me got some water in the motor because the oil was like milky brown. I have changed the oil 2 times and the oil still has a milky tint to it.
I'll get it figrured out one day.
Thanks for all of your help,

Other then the oil how does it run. Does it idle good but bog out at high speed?. Or does it idle bad but run good wide open?.

If you want to get the oil out, put a mix of half and half oil and tranny fluid in. Start the trike and let it fast idle until it is hot, Drain the half and half. put in fresh oil and the water will be gone. Tranny fluid absorbs water. I got my 250sx stuck in a 2 ft deep creek. the water was over the tires and I was perched on the seat. The 4x4 quad pulled me out, the sx fired right up and got me home. The oil was soup when I got there. One round of tranny fluid and all the water was history.

hey i am putting a 200x carb on my 200e.
the carb stock needle must have been replaced because the jet says 110. Would this be the reason I cant get it to start?
Or will it just run rich?
i need this thing going for the weekend!!!!!
