Someone has offered me a 97 model Honda 300 Ex for my 84 model Honda 200X. This is the same person who sold me the 82 model 200 that I have. Gee, I am at a real quandary about this. The 300 has just had the valves replaced. One was bent, and we have ordered the other.
This fellow got it from a guy who got hurt on it, and his wife made him sell it. The reason that the valves were replaced was that the oil ran out when the drain plug worked its way out. The motor has a sensor which shuts it down when the oil gets low.
The guy is really in love with my 200X. I let him ride it for a while today, and he is very anxious. I told him to get it running and I would look at it. Any thoughts? - Ted

That would be a tough call.
Did you ride the quad yet ? I think youll be suprised how it runs and drives,
The 300cc quad is under powered quit a bit, and the 4x2 steering seems strange to me.
It would be nice to have a newer ride and all,but I would take my trike. I just plain like them too much.
There still could be other mechanical damage to the quads engine too.
Good luck..........................................Troll
The 300 has no more power and less top end speed than a 250sx because or the added wate. steering blows, it's safer to ride but less fun. three wheelers :headbang: :hail: four wheelers:loser:
That would be a tough choice, you could always trade for the 300ex, fix it, sell it, and buy another three wheeler and have money left over.

the question comes down to price...what's the 300ex worth? I'd think that since a decent 200x is worth around $600-700 that you'd be coming out ahead in the trade BUT that engine stuff worries me. Valves usually bend b/c they've come into close contact with the piston.
If there weren't engine problems I'd say go for it b/c you can always sell the 300ex and get a bigger/better trike but I don't know whether I'd have any faith in that engine work on the ex.
This guy may just be anxious to unload a lemon. :ugh:

I'll wait and see. After the 4 wheeler is up and running, I will check it out. The valve got bent because after the guy replaced the valves, he timed it 180 degrees out. He turned it over one time and bent them.
I don't really like the looks of the sport quad, but I'll think about it. He told me that I had the "best looking 3 wheeler that he had ever seen", all in his 21 tender years.;) I did like watching him salivate over the machine. My machine really does not look as good as most of the ones that are pictured here.
I did find a guy who wants to trade his Honda 4wd 300, a 93 model, with racks and nice looking, for a 300 Sport model. Now, that is something that would interest me. Do I see a multiple trade coming on here? I would really have to make sure the sport model was in very good shape to do this, I would never want to stick somebody with a lemon. - Ted

sorry big cheese but if someone offered me 800 for my 85 200x i would laugh at them of course i have well over 1500 invested in it
as for the 300 ex quad if it was me I WANT A QUAD just for the fact i want to race and cant do it on 3 wheels (too dangerous???)
but i wouldn't trade for a 300ex i've ridden some and they wern't very impressive for an all around machine the x stomps it

ok, first of all, its a 300ex, so i would say no, i have a 400ex, and miss my tecate likeyou wouldnt believe. if it was a trade from the 200x to a 400ex, or the 250ex, i would say yes, but the 300 ex's are kind of known for alot of problems, atleast here in SD they are because we beat the crap out of our machines. but then you throw in the deal with the 4x4, and then i would say yes, deffinately go for it if the 300ex is not a lemon. the 4x4 will bring alot more money than the 300 will, so then you can go and buy a better/faster trike:)

I see those 300 4x4s sell for around $1500 here for an older one.

It may or may not be worth it, but I would be reluctant to let my 200x go for less than $1200, and I really would not want to sell it outright. I am getting to "know" the machine, and I know that it is mechanically very sound.
But, as you point out Dan, the market does bear a higher price for a late model 4 wheeler. The 4 wheeler would be better to parlay with if runs decently. When I ride it around, I will make a decision, but I am definitely not anxious to get rid of my 200X just yet. - Ted
