Fork boots

How do you take off the fork boots on a 83 Big Red. I have a new set and i want to replace them. Thanx

I am not certain because i have never done any on that model of machine. But i think they are all pretty much the same. You have to unclamp the forks from the tripple clamp. And slide the old boot up and off the fork. Then slide the new ones on and reclamp the forks.

83 red did you get oem boots? cause my dealer says they are discontinued so i had to buy some aftermarket polisport mx boots that are red and too long. havent got them on yet.:shrug:

pull the boots down a bit. There is a bolt hiding just underneath it.
Take out the bolt the bottom fork comes off and change the boot.

Yes i got OEM boots but like u said they were discontinued but they found a pair from like distributor. This is what you do:
1. Take of front wheel and axle
2. Take of bolt underneath the forks. Now the spring and fork will pop out.
3. take off the spring holder by taking off a a bolt which screws through the fork on top now the fork holder slides out.
4.Reattach spring and fork and slide a the boot up on.
5. Put the bolt back through the fork before you put boot back on.
6. Then put the bootom bolt back on tighten her up
7. Reesemble front wheel and there ya go
Make sure you use lots of grease!!
