i went out and got some carb cleaner today and i cleaned my carb thoroughly but it still wont start good, i cant even keep it started to ride it around. i rev it up and once it starts revving don it goes putt and shuts off. heres somme other info, the keystart is gone, last year when it started right up but there was a lot of smoke and it had been sitting outside all winter at the impound, the spark plug is alays dirty after i start it up so i wipe it off and it helps a bit, if i let it sit for a while it starts up easier but once i go through it starting up and shutting off it is harder to start. so can anyone help me figure this problem out?

It sounds like your carb is not correctly adjusted. If the spark plug is covered with a black substance it is probably incorrect air / fuel mixture.

You've probably already thought if or tried this, but I'd install a new sparkplug. Last time out my '84 250R was acting a similar way, I even went so far as to drain-out all of the race gas (thinking it had gone bad since the trike had sat for a couple of months), still had the problem. Finally I changed the plug (the old one was definitely fouled) and the trike ran great for the rest of the weekend.

HTH :)

i sanded my spark plug and i figured the reason why it kept getting dirty was because i need new piston rings and its burning so much oil
