How can I check if the electrical components in my cdi and ignition stator are performing right? My 185s has weak spark and it's not because of the spark plug. It also has a new spark plug cable so its not that either. I have a volt ohm meter and know how to use it but don't know how to use it to check these parts.
Please help :(

the interior "Stator" coil should have at least 110 ohms of resistance, the more the better. to check it you go down by the recoil starter, on the right there is your chain guard, out of the back of that there is a small black wire casing, follow it up and there will be a pair of plugs, one should be a green wire and a yellow wire, theese are your lighting wires. the other wire should be a black wire with red stripes, this is your ignition wire. set your ohm meeter to ohms, put one lead in the connector of the black and red, (after you disconnect it) and the other lead get a good ground to the case, you should scratch it in therer a little bit or wire brush it off or something, i belive to book i saw said at under 108 ohms it wont run, i know when i put a new coil in my 200 it registered at 147. so good luck, anything else i can help you with let me know ive gone through my 200 for the same problem and it was a bad stator coil so hope this helps.

yup that stator has given a lot of people headaches.
they are relatively cheap too.

Its not a hard thing to get to if you have the right puller, you can get the puller for under 20 bucks too. i got my coil of e-bay it was like 19 bucks and its the balls, better starting and more power, let us know what you find.

I think my Volt-Ohm meter is faulty. It can measure volts accurately but whenever i switch it to resistance it always says overload. I'll try and borrow one.

It's normal for it to read OL or overload if you just turn it to the resistance setting; and your leads are not touching anything. Touch the leads to gether does it zero out? if so it's working fine.

Rocketman, it does zero out when I press the ends together, but when I put the ends on the wire and the case to check the coil it says overload there also.

That means theres no continnuity, there fore the coil is JUNK, get a new one, no connection in the windings thats what happened to mine, our ohm meeter is fine, your coil is junk, i would start searching ebay for one, honda wants almost 160 bucks, i got mine off e-bay for like 20. this is where i got mine, from this ebay store, take a look he has some good deals. http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=3013295&ssPageName=L2
