I have a 225 DRS. it runs great, rides nice, looks real nice. It has a shifting problem. The neutral light does not come on, and w/o the light the electric start does not work. I was able to "hot wire" the switch in order to get the electric start to work. It has a problem going into gear. At times it will not go into neutral, or 2nd. once it is in 2nd its fine. Any experienced yami mechanics w/ ideas? I don't really want to split the cases w/o a good idea. Will DX trans parts work, or just look for DR stuff?

Any help would be great

I have had this post running at 3ww.com and I am still looking for Yami guys input. I am going to copy a few other responces here. This is so you guys don't think I'm typing to myself.

THANKS

Thanks for the reply.
I am pretty sure its not the idle. It starts and runs great. What is the difference between the DR and the DX in the trans? How does the reverse work on a DR? (mine will go into reverse in any gear lol) Will the shift drum thing and the shift forks work from a DX to a DR? I can get a parts DX motor cheep, I have a yami 200ern for parts rite now, will any trans stuff work from it?

THANKS

have you looked on partsfish and compared part numbers to the various identical parts (gears, etc.)? that might help you figure out what will interchange & what won't.

I put 40 miles on the DR today. I just never used neutral. W/ the neutral switch "hot wired" I put it between 1st and reverse to start it. The electric start worked perfactly. I never had the slightest problem w/ it!!! It ran great!!! I took about 50 pictures w/ my new digi cam, but I was the only 1 on a trike and I had the camera. I will post some stuck 4x4 pictures later.
The 200ern has a rigid rear end. the back of the motor looks alot different, it also has a completely different shifter linkage too. I do not think its a bolt in. I think I need to do some more reserch before I pull the 2 motors. I did use the stator cover from the E onto the DR, it went on w/o a problem.
I think I might just ride it as it is for now. My girlfriend is going to ride it alittle this summer and I will be on it till its dry enuff for the TECATE to come out.

on the 250sx/es motor there is a little bolt just inside the case that can back out or break & it will keep the shifter from working correctly.

Oh yeah, I think Yamachuck has a manual for these. He's sent me some wiring diagrams so maybe his book can help.

I looked in both of my manuals and didn't really find much. All it really describes is how the reverse shifter works. "The shift linkage operates a dog clutch inside the gear housing. The dog clutch engages either the forward or reverse gear. The transmission must be in first gear when shifting to reverse as a pin in the shift linkage must index in a hole in the transmission shift drum." If your electric starter won't engage when your in neutral, I'd have to believe that your neutral switch is shot. That is located above and to the right of the engine drain plug. Hope this helps you some. Chuck

The YFM200, YTM200, YTM225, and YFM225 all had basically the same bottom end.

YamaChuck. Thanks for the reply. Let me give some more info. It WILL go into reverse in ALL 5 gears!! LOL. It has a problem going into neutral or into 2nd. BUT Neutral is about imposible. Once in 2nd its fine thru the rest. If I get it into neutral it will only go into 1st if it wants to. I leave it in first, put the lever between forward and reverse and use the electric start w/ the neutral switch "hot-wired" to start it. I think it has a bad shift drum or a bent/ broken 1st gear shift fork.
Would a DR linkage case bolt to a DX case and work? Is the shift drum/ forks the same? What is the deal w/ the pin/drum thing? I was told to pull the cluch cover and look there befor splitting the cases, any ideas?
