:headbang: just picked up the following Big Red cheap... its pretty rough. I don't know if I'll keep it or part it out. heres the problem I'm having...
the guy I got it from took a piston out of another motor and put in this one, also the cam I believe.... I thought he told me out of a 250 (mines a 200es '84) I've got the other motor in a box outside.. I'll check in the morning to see what it is... but anyway, I can start it with the electirc star (jumping it off my car) It'll run only if i give it full throttle with the choke on. I cleaned the carb completly, its getting plenty of gas. when it runs, I can see it blowing air-fuel ixture back out the air box ( with lid of filter removed) in between strokes..(engine is running just above idle at this point.
motor sound mechanicaly sound (not hammering on pounding) it just wont run at normal throttle or with choke off.
also, will only run (crappy) when I adjust (I beleive im retarding) the timing (at the pickup sensor-end of cam)...(i turn it all the way counter clockwise- just a few degrees of adjustment available) other wise it wont run when set back to the middle position....
:wtf: does any one think the cam might be one tooth off when he installed it.. I don't think he had it running after he put it together. OR maybe the valve adjustment might not be right??(I doubt that one)... what do you think?? I spent about 20 minute farting around with it today....... have'nt really thought it all the way thru.... been awhile since I got into engines this much.
HELP... thanks

just went out and looked at the spare motor that the cam came out of for this one ( in big red) the donor motor is a 200 (192cc on jug) the motor is chain drive with a high-low (possible reverse) box on the out side of final drivre sprocket.
I 'm ASSUMING its the same motor ( maybe differnt year or make) but same cam... I'll leave it too you guys out there who really know your honda motors. thanks.

It sure couldnt hurt to check your timing marks and see if they are on. And also loosen up the cam chain adjuster run the motor for a minute os so and retighten it. It could just be slack in the chain making it fire a little out of time.

What does the compression fell like?.

It almost sounds like somthing is stuck in the idle mixture airways. The way you have to have the choke closed and the throttle wide open. Like it cant pull enough fuel through it with the choke closed. And then by the time you have the throttle wide open the main jet is feeding it. When you cleaned out the carb did you run a wire through all the little airways in the carb to make sure they were clean?.

The fact that the motor sounds good is a big plus. And that you can get it running really helps to narrow down all the things that it could be.
