So, my bearings finally showed up, and I had the time and desire (simultaneously, no less) to change them out today. I got the old bearings out and the new ones in no problem. BUT, I pulled this thing apart weeks ago, and I need a little memory refresher. I took the seals off of the carrier awhile back, and a ring came out of one end of the carrier (outside of the bearing). Another ring like it is still on my axle, up against the sprocket hub. Are these the "spacers" that keep the distance between everything? I'm assuming they go between the bearing and seal at each end of the carrier? The service manual isn't a lot of help once you get the carrier out of the swingarm...
I'm hoping to start reassembly tomorrow, so I can get these things out of the garage and my car back in!

I don't remember anything like that on mine, wonder if someone put them in there? Check partsfish and see if they list them. Or get a pic and then I'll know for sure if mine had them. I had two rear ends apart about 2 months ago.

They're a flat ring, about 1/2 inch wide, with tapered edges. When I slide my carrier onto the axle (over the ring that's still on the axle) the ring keeps the carrier away from the sprocket hub, and the carrier turns smoothly on the axle, so I'm reasonably sure thats what they're for. Without them, there'd be nothing to keep the end of the carrier from hitting the sprocket or brake disc hubs.
The more I type about it, the more sense it makes.:D

without seeing it i have no reason to understand why theses spacers would do what you described, but they do not belong there. there is no such spacer in that place. I've rebuilt hundreds of 350X rear ends from 1985 to present and have never seen one with theses spacers. theye are not on the parts fish or in the manual. my advice get ride of them.

In this pic, the ring in question is shown next to the sprocket hub (it's the shiny ring). The mystery ring fits right over the ring next to the sprocket hub, and seems to be exactly the right size for the bearing carrier end seal. The mystery ring has a cut or crack in it- I can't tell if it's supposed to be there or not.

Here's another view of it in place on the axle. It looks like its marked from the seal rubbing against it???

That shiny thing is the race that the seal rides on. Its not supposed to be broken or come off.

So, does the "mystery ring" (part B) PRESS onto part A? Is part A part of the sprocket hub? Part B fits onto Part A, but not super snugly. Part B can spin around Part A without much difficulty. Anyone see any of these on Parts Fish? I don't see them on there... Do I need to clean up and gnurl part A so a new Part B will fit snugly onto it and not spin?
What a pain! I was hoping the bike would go back together this weekend so I could get it out of my garage and get my car back in!

This is not really good news.
part B was originally pressed ont part A (called the sprocket hub). It was not supposed to come off. Yours is broken, I can see the crack in it, thats why it will turn on the sprcket hub. As best I can tell looking at my parts fiche printout, it is not sold seperatly. It came as part of the sprocket hub. There is a equivelent piece on the other side that is part of the rotor hub. These pieces are supposed to be very smooth, and rub against the inside of the big seal. I do not know where you can get just that piece to press back onto your sprocket carrier.
The only good news it that some people think it is better to run good sealed bearings, and leave the big seals off. In that configuration you could leave part B out as well. The issue would be crap getting into your bearings, but being in AZ you probably do not ride in much water.
Bummer and good luck

Well, since I didn't feel like buying the sprocket hub, I JB Welded the ring back on, and clamped it with a c-clamp to close up the crack as much as possible while it set up. It looks fine, and is even real smooth to the touch. So, I think it'll hold up just fine, especially since the only time that bike will go over 30 now is when I ride it (it's now my wife's ride). :D
