2 stroke running backwards

Anyone ever have a problem with their 2 stroke running backwards? Mine will start and go thru all the gears......in reverse. I drove it about 1/4 mile in reverse.....shifting thru the gears as I went. Let me know. This was on a Tecate 250

been there!!! i had a dt1 250 yamaha that use to run backwards once in a while,,,,,, it was tooooo funny on a motorcycle:D :lmao: :lmao:

(was a dt50)im tryin to remember which part it was that snapped,causing the crank to run bckwrds=bckward runnin bike.
it ran perfect,changed through all gears,was just backwards!!!

I think it happens mostly if you just kinda poke the start
lever instead of kicking it all the way through -

I saw another post of someone satating that there tecate ran backwards, and I think the problem was the magnets on the flywheel were put on wrong, I know I saw it here or 3wheelerworld.

not sure if it is in your case or not, but i know you can make some motorcycles do that if some of the wiring is backwards, i dont remember which wires, its been awhile since i had a bike, but i remember they came out from behind the left side, where the flywheel is, and came out the top of the motor, right below the carb, accidentally put them backwards on an sl 70 i had... stock wiring it wont work because of the connectors, but mine had been changed to straight wires by the previous owner for some unknown reason.......

Howdy from 3ww had a T3 that ran backwards. It ended up being the flywheel. I've also seen on a yami dirt bike that if you cross the wires from the stator it will also run backwards.

i think its a pretty cool phenomon. impossible on 4strokes, but because 2 strokes are sooooo simple, they can work that way.

i have an old leaf blower that would sometimes back fire and then start running backwards :lmao: . its so funny, i dont know why, but its hilarious!!

Thats how Ski-doo's reverse works on newer snowmobiles. Its called RER, Rotax Electronic Reverse. I've heard that when you push the button it slows down the engine a lot, then it starts going backwards. Saves a lot of weight.

hey i read this thread yesterday and i bought a 84 250r today, i rode it when i bought it and then bring him to home. i try to start it with the kicker but it wouldn't start so i try to start it by pulling it and pushing it in second gear. it made a little sound and then it start, but when i started, like puttputt said "My face said "howdy" to the handlebars" and i found that i was running backward tru all 5 gear.

what's the prob, i want to ride it tomorow???

dont do any thing extreme to fix this problem... this happend to my friens tecate... in the flywheel there is a little half moon piece (costs like $2.00) that fell out or something and it started going backwards... its really no big deal;)

i've just foiund that the little moon piece was snapped in half. i'll buy another one tomorow.

ABout the snowmobile, the new ski doos have electronic reverse but i think it just switches the gearbox, my griend has a 03 touring and it has it but i dont think it changes the motor direction. i know the old jhonson snowmobiles did start backwards along with the old ez go golf carts. i could be wrong about the ski doos though.

the ski doos reverse is by making the machine run backwards, when you hit the switch, it slows the rpms down to barely running, changes the timing by 60 degrees, causing it to fire when the pistons are coming back up, forcing them backwards, the inertia of the moving parts keeps it running, but it is nowin reverse, and timing goes back to normal immediatly, when you hit the switch again, the exact same thing happens, but causing it to run in forwards again...

i just start with a normal key cause they didn't have any honda key at my honda dealer !!!

just finished to install it and start the engine. Wow it run foward now.

all i can say is, it's one hell of a beast.

try to pass from big red 200 to a wonderfull 84 250r
that's a big deal lolll

no word can explain how i like this trike, damn i'm on fire.

i don't work today so i'm gonna run it all the afternoon. aprox 20°C, 50-70 kph wind and a beautifull sunny day.

i'm gotta make the beast scream.
