Just trying to figure out which front sprocket i want to run on the 200x/s. Could anyone tell me what the gear ratio in the tranny is for a 83-85 200x. And also for a 200s auto clutch.

My Clymer manual does not say. Good luck with your search. - Ted

I hear that. I have a Clymers for both bikes but neither one tells what the gear ratio is.

sprockets are what you change gearing with, 200 80-82 rear 47 teeth front 11 . 200 83 47 & 11 . 200m 84-85 47 & 11 . 200s 84 -86 43 & 11 . 200x 83-85 40 & 12 . 200x 86-87 38 & 13 . 200x rears will not interchange with 200 . bolt patturn X - 6 , others - 4 . you will have to look to front sprocket to change gearing . good luck

Thanks dads. But i was looking for the gear ratio of the tranny gears. They are both 5-speed trannys. But was wondering if they were the same gearing inside.

There is a formula (i can't remember it off hand) We use on diesels, to determin the gearing the trany will require to run diffent sized tires. one changes Hp of eng to a the amount of tork it puts out X the number of teeth on the gears =out put shaft rowtation (be like5 to 1 eng. turns 5 out put shaft turns 1) x front sprocket x rear sprocket x circomfrance of tire. this is to determin tire size , do it in reveres tells you what gearing the trany requires. Now that i got you all confused I'll clear your head . automatics are geared higher than standereds , Its the shafts that the gears are on that will determin if they will interchange. will gears interchange from shaft to shaft . will shafts interchange from eng. to eng. do it the quick way check part numbers. if they don't mach they don't work:thumbsup: The gear # wont mach but check the shaft #s:D

Thanks for all the info dads. I know the sprockets will interchange. But i didnt think to check part #. I will check out partsfish and see if it calls for the same part# gears for both trannys.

Ok i got it figured out here is the outcome.

------ 200s ----- 200x
1st--- 13t------- 14t
2nd---18t -------17t
3rd----22t------- 20t
4th----25t--------23t
5th----27t--------26t

Notice the huge jump between 1 and 2 and 3 on the 200s. 5 gears then 4 gears then 3 and 2. While the 200x tranny jumps a nice even 3 gears every shift. So i think i am going to drop back down to the 11 tooth front sprocket and keep the 40 tooth rear. And that should about even up the gearing or at least as close as i can get it with this combo.
