I voted for Tiger too, mainly because they were made in MN and thats my home state. I've actually been to the city where they were made. And the fact that the 500 Tiger could do 81 mph with 16/36 gearing kind of appeals to me too. I guess it could pull those gears easy. But I bet the 40mm carb really sucked the gas.

I picked the 350X, because I already have one and know it's a great bike and how it performs is really good, couldn't ask for any better of a bike, If I could have me a new one i'd be in business.

Good poll. Fortunately, at this time in my life, this is one dream that I can actually afford, when I get the desire to do it. Some of my other dreams, like a Purdy double rifle, (about 25,000 on the cheap) or a perfect 1978 Bandit edition Trans Am, or a 70 Dodge Charger, may have to wait just a little bit. - Ted

I had to vote for the 250SX- my dream trike would be a 250SX with a clutch set-up. Maybe someday I'll get the ambition to try to make one from an XR work:p I don't think it will be just a bolt on swap though.

10-16-2002, 07:40 AM
After having read through all these posts I am disappointed that nobody mentioned the 225DX or DR. Besides the Tri-Z it was Yamaha's top of the line trike and I don't think it is given the respect that it deserves. Not even a mention of it in most of these polls. When you put a 250SX in a poll such as this then the DX/DR should be right in there with it. Practically identical in features. Both have full suspension, auto clutch, electric start and the DR has reverse. Also the DX/DR has a rear(enclosed) disc brake instead of the SX's drum. Both the Honda and Yamaha are built for the utility/sport rider and both are very fine machines. As "Rodney" would say, "can't a guy get a little respect aroung here?"

Well I voted for the 250SX, I have one and I think its hard to beat.

Someone wanted to know some reasons why its so popular...five reasons, 1. its electric start (no pulling), 2. shaft drive, (no chain), 3. reverse (no gettin off and dragging), 4. full suspension (no butt rash/back aches) now if it sounds like this could be an endorsement for the 225DX its not because... 5. Its a 4 stroke HONDA and IMHO they are just the best thing out there for reliability.

P.S. My REAL dream trike is a 350X with a auto clutch, electric starter, reverse and shaft drive... dream on eh!

Any more doubts please PM me with your phone number and I'll ask Kieth to call you an you can hash it out with him. I had an 88 ATC 250r. It was a proto type the built in 86. It was completely black except for the decals. It was actually 294cc two strike. I think they were going to call it the ATC 300r. Sadly I was drinking one day and sold it for $450.00 and a keg of beer.

A 250r/500r or tiger would be nice, but I want to build a full on custom jumping trike. Long travel suspension, 300r engine, nice wide axle, etc. etc. How many people would get freaked out seeing someone bomb out 150' on a trike? Haha, its my goal and I plan on doing it at some point in my life.

Did I post my dream trike yet? Too many pages to double check so my dream trike would be an 86 Tecate with a new KX450F fourstroke dirtbike motor in it. That would be hawt!

What the hell man?!!? My favorite is My trike, the go-ole 1983 200.. i love that baby my first trike. it goes any where and isnt that fast. But hey damnit! with out tanks like the 90-70-185S and 200 there would be no 250Rs... Pay respect to the old tanks!! THEY NEED IT!! lol but my next trike which i have been dreaming about--forever lol is a 200x..1986 but if its a 83-84 that works for me to..lol

After owing my banshee for a bit the DREAM bike would have to be a Twin cylinder 500 with drag porting. So it would be like having 2 250r engines side by side.

Well I have read every post on this pole, and I too wonder why the 250sx is in the lead. I own a 1985 250sx, and like it alot, but I voted for the 350x. The sx is just about bomb pruff. I only have tight woods and trails to ride on, but wish there were more power comin out of the sx.
The other day my sx did impress me, I was riding with my sons, and was getting bored with the little moto track, so I just took off up a long steep hill in the woods. Not thinking of anything but missing the trees. Well I made it up with no problem, and half the way up, I was wheeling and just trying to hold on.

The big cheese cheated and jacked the total vote on the 250sx by about 150 or so

I like the auto clutch and low first gear of the sx. Plus the counter-balanced engine is smooth. But the electric start, reverse and weight arent for me.

was close between a Tiger, ATC350X, and a 500R

I chose the 500R Cuz I rode bog bores like a CR500R and a YZ-490. And the raw power of those things was insane! And I imagine that on a trike = FUN!

I wouldn't mind making my own version of that NIN-Z:headbang:

I grew up in a Polaris shop, love the things to death, (but I am not polaris or die, i've got Kawasakis, Yamahas, Hondas, and KTMs, but these are my favorite quads/ sleds) I have seen them beat and put through the ringer and come out on top (especially the old two strokes)... It's not there on the poll, but i would love to find an '85 Polaris Scrambler Three Wheeler out west here close that I could pick up. Not much to look at, but polaris stopped production quite literaly the month we signed on as a dealer, sold what they had clear into '86, but we never could get one... so never got to even see one in person. My dad and I still talk about having one around. Some day I figure on finding one and restoring it all the way (already did a '86 Trail Boss about 10 years ago, now its needing it again!)

ShaneNP123

Something like a 250r or 350x would be pretty cool, but I'd be pretty happy with something like a 200m like I have now, hopped up a little, and somehow with reverse. Maybe a 200sx motor jabbed in somehow?

Well, I got a 350x, Tiger 250, Tiger 500 and the Ascott 500 top ended 350x is coming along, but I have to say my dream trike is the Nicholson 500 that I recently picked up. It needs alot of work, but I'm slowly hacking away on it. LOL

Zac
10-11-2011, 08:52 PM
what is an ascott?

Vealmonkey
10-11-2011, 11:21 PM
Honda made 2 different ascott 500 motorcycles. One of them was a v-twin. The other was a single cylinder, but both displaced 500cc if I remember correctly. I never really knew much about the v-twin models. There was an article in an old 3wheeling or dirtwheels magazine about putting an single cylinder ascott 500cc head on a 350x. The single cylinder ascott 500 had 2 intake and 2 exhaust valves. Well, SWIGIN, who normally posts on 3ww started to do the conversion. He had to do alot of mods to fit the ascott head on the 350x cylinder, but the cylinder is all done. I bought the head and some other parts from him, so it will be a stock ascott 500 single cylinder and sleeve in a 350x cylinder with the modded ascott head. The compression will be stock. The cam is a more aggessive roller bearing cam. The exhaust will be custom built. The lower end will be all nos honda parts, but the crank is getting stroked. Top secret mods to the clutch to help it hold better with the additional power, a bunch of other little bits and pieces and all freshly rebuilt. It's going in a very gusseted 350x frame which has a title, it will be getting a Jason Hall inverted front end kit that takes the cr125 forks and it will be getting a +2 or +3 swing arm from HRE. Only need a piston and gaskets for the engine, waiting for Jason Hall kit to arrive and have to get Mike to make my swingarm. Have pretty much all the other parts though. It's coming together. Oh, have to get the frame powdercoated. I hope that explains it better. Just another project. LOL It wouldn't be possible without alot of help from members on here and 3ww though. Thanks for putting up with me everyone! LOL

10-12-2011, 01:14 AM
Mine needs alot more work before it's a dream bike. LOL I think my poor ole trike is more of a wannabe right now. At least it's back on 3 wheels and heading in the right direction. As soon as I get that template and that bracket made up, I'll be alot closer to being respectable and correct. Now I just have to find me a running engine.

There are a few I would like but when I went to buy another after 20+ years sence the last, I choose an 84' Honda 250r. Not rare or sought after its the last year of the aircooler's so IMHO was the best of them. Then to build it I went with a complete 86' front end for the larger diameter & longer travel forks as well as the heavy'r duty brakes also found a set of "Super scoops" fuel tank scoops. Then picked up an aftermarket +3 Westcoast swingarm for it again for the better suspension with an extended axle. For the moter I found a Hondaline 300r big bore top end with a NOS piston & ring set, Boysen carbon fiber reeds in a mid 90's CR250r 4 pedal cage, 34mm Keihin PE carb off an 85'r & a fl350 intake boot then to finish it off bought a full Bassani exhaust system. I always liked the gold alumunum wheels so have the full set of 3 plus an extra set of rear with paddles. I started the build 18 months ago & took a year before it was rideable & still working on it. Everything mentioned I have but have not yet installed the 300r top end or Bassani exhaust. At the start I went thru both the top & bottom of the 250r motor with the stock 30mm carb & put a DG exhaust on it & thats how it sits now. There are some picks in my kickstart thread:
