I am going to buy a 85 200x that is in good shape has fire but doesn't have enough compression to run. The guy says that it has a bad head gasket? Is there something that usually goes wrong with them. He is asking 200 but I am going to trade some parts for his motorcycle as a partial trade. And I was wondering how a 200x with aftermarket exhaust, pro-lite piston, ported head and intake would compare to a 300ex or a 400ex. Just wondering because my bro is thinking of buying a 300ex and his buddy has a 400ex. Thanks

go for it $200 is a great price, they go for $800 and up in running condition. with aftermarket exhaust, porting, cam, xr200r carb and intake that thing should rip. stock it is as fast as a 300ex. remember one thing horsepower is useless without suspension and handling. rebuilt forks(progressive springs), rear shock, good tires, and a extended axle would do huge improvments. you would use the most out of your motor, then if its not fast enough do motor work. thats what I'm doing with my 85r, just got elka shock, rebuilt forks, extended axle, holeshot tires and now i'm gonna be working on the motor, so now the bike can handle the power. too many people do a killer motor and leave the stock(usually worn suspension) and can't use 1/2 the power(except in straight runs)
let me put it this way. my 250sx is as fast as a 300ex.
it puts out the same power as the sx because it's pushing more tires and weight. so the 200x should give a 400 a run for the money.

a 200x will not give a 400ex a run for its money. i have both and they are both build the same. Full exhaust, k&n filter with no air box lid and jetting. My 400ex is faster then a 350x with the same mods and a 400ex carb on it. And no it is not the driver. I am talking about a drag race. get the 200x they are fun bikes. I started to build the nuts out of mine and wish i had not started. I should have just stuck with the minor modifications instead of wanting the most power out of a 200x i could get.

How bout a 2004 yamaha warrior stock. My brother just bought it today for $4800(including nerf bars). It is red and black. It is a nice bike even for a quad. HEHE.

My bad. It's a 2003. How would that 200x with the mods stand to it?

a 200x with the right rider and enoguh modding will keep up with a 400ex..300s are just a joke..the warrior is fast but is somewhat heading towards the utility side of sport quads..a 200x should be able to keep up with it..until lyou run into sharp turns at the ends of long straight aways  ..(personal experience)..the one front wheel donesnt have the stopping power that id liek it to have..and you lose cornering..(i have no back brakes) ..but once you hit a straight away the lil x can out accelerate alot of 4 stroek quads...:D

I've "DRAG" raced 300EX's and have had no problem "Keeping" up and have won on several occasions. Guess they were just worried about hurtin their machine or shifting too soon, or the 200X was just a superior machine. The big diff was riders, the corners were too scary :ugh:
What ever...Riders, Machines, Risk. Know what you are doing out there kiddies....Oh and buckle up :salute:
