what is a good replacement carb from another machine to put on for more performance..would basicly any carb work....

I like to stick with Keihin carbs for thier ease of tunability. As far as carbs are concerned 36-39mm would off a performance upgrade. As far as the best carb of the bunch I'd have to pick a 38mm Keihin PWK A/S
It's easily accessable and offers very good performance gains.
ESR sells them for just under $200 (http://www.esr250.com)
But if you are on a budget I'd look around for a 36 or 38mm Keihin PJ, they can be found on eBay for not alot of money.

36,38,or39 pwk would be the best type (size depends on motor and riding preferance. if interested i have a 36mm pwk for sale. i used it one year on my RM 125 back in 89/90 other then that its been sitting in the box it came in. 75.00
