well i guess for this dune trip coming up in Aug. i will need a new chain. i was looking at some chains on e-bay and i think i saw one for like 15$. should i just stay away from those cheap chains? i see some that are o-ring chains? whats the diff. and why is it WAY more? also, about the sprockets , i don't know if mine are really worn but i'd hate to spend 65$ on a chain and then if my sprockets are to worn it wear out the chain faster.
do you chainge your sprockets all the time when you change your chain? this is the first time i had to deal with a chain and sprocket so just looking for some tips.
i was told that the sand dunes will eat up the chain i have and since it is adjusted all the way out i figured i should get a new one before i go. i have already put a case saver on it though. i put that on before i even rhode it the first time.

wow, that was alot of rambling for two simple questions. LOL  :D

Maybe just for now i'll order that cheap chain and then just run the same sprockets. to save money so i can buy sand tires and other crap to prepare for the dunes.

recreationunlimited.com has some good deals on chain/sprocket combos. I've always heard that you should change them together. However, if you're just going to slap a $15 chain on there it probably won't matter if it gets eaten up. O-ring chains last much longer & are less maintenance. Just don't get aluminum sprockets.

I agree, it seems to be standard practice to change the chain and sprokets all at the same time, if not then your new chain will get chewed-up fast and the sprokets will likely get more messed-up as well.

I'd also defintily recommend going with an O-ring type chain, yeah their more expensive but if you're going to keep the trike for a while they'll pay for themselves, of course if you're trying to save some $$ then going with new sprokets and a non-O-ring type chain should get you a couple of years out of that combo.

thats right, go with the O-ring chain and stay away from the aluminum sprokets. they cost more and don't last very long either.

well i guess what i'll do is get the 15$ chain and keep the old sprockets on there. main thing is i want it to last a few rides well i'll be ohnest as long as it lasts through the whole dune trip im happy. lol i just don't want to spend all the money for the good stuff yet. gonna need to save that money to get to the dunes and stay there, food and all.
Thanks, for the help. and that link
