Where can you buy heavier springs for the rear shock? I also need to know how much I should expect to spend to get one (or more) rebuilt. Anyone have any suggestions? thanks

progressive suspension or Works can provide you with a spring. expect to pay around 80.00

to rebuild the shock your looking at around 150.00

to revalve it your looking at around 200.00

to upgrade with whole new internals including larger shaft your looking at around 400.00 (this will bring your shock up to todays standards.)

Complete rebuilds(internals, and more) depend on your connections. Most rear shock complete rebuilds are about 2 weeks+. just to get it

A regular rebuild can be done in a few days though. Your local ATV shop should be able to accomplish that.

Bill, clean out your PMs. :D

I talked to a couple of other people who said they couldn't be rebuilt either. What gives?

You can definitely rebuild them. I had mine rebuilt on my 85 last season and it made a huge differnce.

Maybe we're talking about 2 different things...I'm talking about tearing one completely apart & replacing all the seals.

These guys said you can't get new seals & the shock doesn't come apart like that.

Dan, like i said it's because they do not know HOW to rebuild them. you can't get the seals from Honda they do not offer them however you can get them from other sources. additionally there is a lock nut on the piston assembly that is designed not to come off, (safty feature) howver if you know how to remove it, you can and therefore can rebuild the shock.

not only can you rebuild the shock it can be revalved and or differant pistons and shafts can be installed.

your local Honda dealer can change the oil and nitrigen but they won't rebuild the shock because they were not taught how to.

Every shop is Southern California can rebuild them..... I had mine rebuilt last year too. New seals bushings, and valving for my rider weight. Cost me $150.00 dollars total, and I had it back in about 2 weeks I think. They could of rushed it sooner, but I was in no hurry.

The ATC shock is almost, if not identical to the TRX shock, so they make aftermarket bushings, and seals for them.

is there another shock that is comparable in length? off a golf cart maybe? just an idea i guess. i'd like mine a lil stiffer as well. since im about 245# im sure i put a hurtin on the stock shock. :D

even if it physically fit a differant shock is not the answer. the differances in the weight if the two machines, swingarm lengths, are gonna make the shocks have differant internal valving and spring rates.

the stock shock can be modified for your needs even for someone weighing 245lbs. and you'll be better off then just throwing on another shock
