I am running a TRX-style oval slide Keihin in my 250r. I remember when I first put it on I had a helluva time getting the boot from the airbox over the big end of the carb. Well I did some stuff to the R and now I CANNOT get the stupid ba$tard back on! Is there some trick to this? Can I BUY a bigger intake boot for something else? I tried heating the boot and got it so hot it started to smoke but it stil wouldn't go on. :bash: :fire:

Try soaking it in hot water to loosen it up. Ive also put the boot on the carb before you put the carb in.. Kind of a bi#ch to get it past the rear shock. Im running a 39mm carb, and Ive had more problems with putting the front boot on instead of the airfilter side.

to put a 38 a/s on my r, i put the end in boiling water and it on the carb and put the part on the cylinder teh the water too and then put it on the carb. I had a elka shock on my atc250r so the shock resevare wasn't a problem and it was easy to slide the whole boot past the shock. with the stock shock its a bit harder to do it that way, but its do able. going from the stock carb to the 38 was very tough, if you already have a 36 on it, its a bit easier. If you have a 36mm carb it wouldn't be a bad idea to put it in on the boot and leave it on for about an hour and then put the bigger carb on, as the boot would alreday be alittle streched.

Mine has always been difficult, but never impossible. I usually heat it with a blowdryer and work it on. I think last time I had to put a little WD-40 on it.

What he said, plus lots of lube. It was a royal pain getting my 39mm carb in the boot too.

Dipping it in a pot of hot water is how I get the boot on my Kehin carb. as well. Takes a little patience and a few choice words but eventually it should go on. After it's on I also put a zip tie on it just to make sure it stays tight, though that's probably overkill.

thanks for the tips guys. I finally got it on. :fire:

I would just ditch the airbox but there is alot of water & mud where I ride so I can't live without it.
