86 200X Igniton problem????

OK ya'll this thing has been stumpin me for a few weeks now so any help is appreciated. Bought this 86 200X at a police auction. runs great, fires first kick and will run for an hour or 20 minutes. However the Dang thing willl start sputterin then it dies sometimes I can get it started, but then other times, it has to sit for ever to start back up?

Soemtimes when I mess with the kill switch it seems to start quicker??? or it could be in my head. Also seems to not do it when The gas is in the on position. So maybe it is a gas probelm?? Could the coil be going bad??

The gas should be in the on position while you are operating your trike. If you can run it with the gas in the off position for more than a couple of min, the the gas is not shutting off.

If the problem does not happen with the gas in the on position, leave it there.

Well you see it seems liek it doesnt do it when its on, but when its on REserve is when it seems to do it?

I had the same problem with my 250sx. When I took the petcock out of the tank, the reserve path was partually blocked. Be very gentle removing the in tank strainer, it is fragile and old. I think if you remove the petcock, disassemble and clean it, you will fix your problem.
