What ever you do "DO NOT" increase the compression. It will make it harder to kick start and you will be known as wimp who can't start his own trike.:headbang:

also a good port job on the cylinder, if you can find one a kx cylinder 83/84 makes a huge improvement

what do you have done on suspension? before the motor I'd get a extended axle/spacers/offset rims, good tires, good front and rear suspension and then work on motor, thats how I did my atc250r and I'm very happy with it. I would imagine that it wouldn't fit I know a 83/84 kx250 will.

i the last 3 yrs i have learned so much about the performance
of the 84-85 tecate 3 engine
its awsome....
first things first..
find a good machincist...
do a massive port job
do not put a sleeve in the jug (re-nikisil chrome bore)
runs alot better
deck the head and the jug
put a big carb 39mm or 40.5
throw your airbox in the trash
extend your swingarm
re-wind your stator and remove the ligher coil (very big help)
spark plug run a ngk irradium plug 0.19 gap
113 klotz race fuel
do some piston mods (piston port and compression holes on the top.
or big bore it...
better reeds and modify the reed cage
reed spacer 1\2 inch
you will have all the power you will need.....
